Dutch Doors - Mackenzie & Company Musings

Mar 15, 2018

"When one dutch door closes...another opens," a wise person once said.

Okay, maybe that's not quite how the quote goes. We fared another New England storm over the past couple of days—snowed in, no power, the works. So we might be a little stir crazy, but one thing is for certain, we've been head-over-heels for these divided doors!

Doors are a first impression; they welcome family and friends for the first time. How many times have you walked or driven by a beautiful home and have immediately noticed the striking front door?

Since doors are so impacting to a design, why settle for something mediocre? This week we're musing about dutch doors. With their bright pops of color, classic design and warming demeanor, dutch doors have captured our hearts.

We've rounded up some of our all time favorites...

Understated elegance: this entryway by Heather Bullard is something special. The simple-but-striking black dutch door, the antique camel wagon wheel mirror...just so much to be in awe of!

Feeling all the nautical vibes with this coastal cottage kitchen design by The Inspired Room. The light spilling in through that gorgeous window and dutch door makes the space just so perfect. PS: check out this kitchen remodel - we're swooning.

"Come as you are" — words to live by ☺

Something about this Scout & Nimble design makes us so happy. Loving the glass panes up top, and the nostalgic feeling the door gives off..it brings us right back to the stable! A true beauty.

This elegant entryway is full of natural light, has a stunning chandelier fixture, and wins it all with it's luxe navy Dutch door. The gold hardware = a big yes.

This photo has us pining for warm weather more than ever! Just to open up these doors and let the cool breeze in would be the most delightful treat. The gloss black door and all white exterior is as classic + charming as it gets.

Springtime exterior inspiration: loving this clean, sun-drenched dutch door design via Becki Owens. The paint color (Tavern Green by Benjamin Moore) is unexpected but oh-so-chic!

We had to end with a show stopper! A picturesque setting with a vibrant dose of color and beautiful blossoms. Even as bright as this design is, it's so calming all at once.
