Windows—arguably one of the focal points of any space. They might just be our favorite element of a design, as they let the sunshine in and give us a view of the beautiful outdoors. How can you not fall in love with that?
Natural light (or lack thereof) can make or break a room. So with that being said, we don’t just put treatments on windows to treat them. The Mackenzie & Company motto: If the window doesn’t need to be treated, we don’t treat it!
However, the majority of windows do require some design attention...
Here are a few of our go-to methods that will get the job done, while still keeping your space light & bright!

Clean lines and classic tailoring have made Roman Shades a forever fave. Since they are available in countless styles and materials—from classic to casual to elegant—there's always going to be something that works. Mackenzie & Co top picks for fabric: linen & wool.
In our designs, we use a Roman in the form of a stationary piece; a soft pretty treatment that gives the illusion of being a full treatment. Our component of choice is a roller shade behind it, since we're not crazy about the way Romans look when they function.
The classic roman detail above goes perfectly with the simple and soothing feel of this kitchen, and that soft blue island color is just perfection!

Relaxed Roman Shade
Roman shades are great solution when floor-to-ceiling curtains are not an option, like when windows are in front of a bathtub. We ♡ relaxed romans! Instead of a stiff looking roman, these beauties offer a nice, relaxed look. We tend to lean towards breezy fabrics and the result is always timelessly chic.
Whenever possible, we'll have a cordless design tailored as they add convenience, safety (especially if you have little ones running around!) & simplicity.

Custom made draperies—an investment, but one that undeniably pays off. Nothing makes a room look more polished and elegant than custom tailored window treatments! When choosing our favorite pleat, we look to the French for style: French pleats are just the best! In our studio we refer to them as ballet pleats ☺

Absolutely adoring the layers on layers in this gorgeous bedroom by Amber Interiors. Ceiling to floor draperies with a classic roman is love at first sight!
Confession: we're not head-over-heels for shutters. If you have a beautiful coastal home, keep it light and airy. No need to shutter it up! Cafe Curtains are an effortlessly beautiful alternative. Our favorite combo: a white filmy fabric or linen curtain with a chrome polished nickel rod!

We tend to use cafe curtains in bathrooms, placing them low so you can still see up & out.
