Statement Wallpaper in Small Spaces - Mackenzie & Company Musings

Feb 28, 2018

Happy Wednesday! We're back again with our newest "mini" blog series: Mackenzie & Company Musings. Today, we're shining the spotlight on statement wallpaper in small spaces. Wallpaper can be difficult to shop for and commit to (and can be tough to hang) but when done correctly, it really makes a room.

Laying the groundwork with a big pattern that creates impact, wallpaper can actually make the rest of the room easier to design because you now have a color scheme and/or theme to work with. If wallpaper is used sparingly & with purpose, the result is never busy.

Don't get us wrong, some wallpaper looks are still an eye sore. But if designed properly, wallpaper can give you the power to turn a blasé wall into something very special.

Above, a stunning sea of beige with monstera leaf wallpaper, assorted throw pillows and a rattan day bed via Serena & Lily. Continue reading to discover some of our most-admired wallpaper designs!

We're getting pleasantly lost in this woodland wallpaper by Sanderson! It adds just the right amount of necessary dimension and texture to this rustic farmhouse dining room.

Sometimes it's fun to go bold! Small spaces, like powder rooms, are the perfect place to give creativity and daringness free rein. We are absolutely bananas over the banana leaf wallpaper trend—especially with black accents like the flooring above via My Domaine.

A crisp, white kitchen—our fave. This floral wallpaper via Sanderson adds interest to the walls in a subtle, delicate way! So much more to swoon over than just a solid paint color.

Don't be afraid to go metallic: this striking wallpaper via Prestigious Textiles reflects the light and beautifully captures the metallic trend. The key here is everything else is kept rather raw and natural, but the wallpaper is shiny & bright!

Simplicity at it's finest: loving the subtle gold accents and detailed wallpaper in this Beachside boho powder room design via Lark & Linen. This space is the epitome of understated luxury!

Children's rooms & nurseries are so ideal for wallpaper designs! Above, this blue hued space is perfect from every angle! We're just head-over-heels for the anchor pattern, the hanging rattan chairs (Serena and Lily), and obviously those bunk beds!

This little nursery brings new meaning to the phrase "counting sheep!" We're in l o v e with the friendly little animal heads & the calming color scheme, all stemming from the neutral wallpaper.

The happiest little attic room! Isn't this swallow wallpaper just the sweetest?

Another monstera leaf beauty via Wallflora Shop. We imagine using this in a coastal home for a teenage girls' bedroom, perhaps? Especially with these amazing copper light fixtures!

Ok—one more (we could go on forever)! Isn't this dining room just a dream? The deep blue & white wallpaper gives the space such personality, and we'll be dreaming about that coral chandelier for days...
