All About Our Process: Working with Mackenzie + Company
After receiving an incredible amount of interest from our following, we decided to document our interior design process in its entirety as we collaborate with Robbin Mangano of The New England Life to transform her space into the coastal home she’s always envisioned. Let’s jump right in to the first steps of working with us: your initial inquiry and our first consultation!
It all starts when you decide that you’re ready to begin your design journey, whether that means starting from construction and ending with a full installation or you’re simply looking to redesign and improve one space in your home. No matter your end goal, we’re here to work with you every step of the way.
Once you get in touch with us, either by filling out our contact form, sending an email to us, or giving a call to our studio, someone from our team will get back to you ASAP to discuss further details and learn a bit more about your project. Over the phone or video chat, we’ll go over your project location, an estimate of the scope of work your project will require and what your budget looks like; our team is happy to assist in determining your budget and financial commitment if you’re unsure going into this process.
We’ll then move forward to scheduling your initial consultation, in which we’ll come out to your home to meet you and your space in person (location permitting), refine your initial inquiry and get a better feel for your unique lifestyle and needs within design. Typically 45 minutes to an hour, the consultation gives us a much better understanding of whether or not we’re a good fit for one another.
During our initial consultation with Robbin, we learned she loves New England style, but doesn’t want to go overboard with Coastal; that kid-friendly furnishings and easy to clean upholstery are high priority for her family and that her husband Jeff would love furniture pieces that are both stylish AND offer plenty of comfort. Of course, a plethora of other small details are gathered during our initial consultation that every client will present based on their project requirements and goals.
We undoubtedly understand that working with an interior designer for the first time (or even the second or third time!) can seem a bit daunting. However, we’re here to tell you that we will never try to pressure you into adhering to a certain design style, purchase products or furnishings that are far beyond your budget or do anything to your space without your approval and final confirmation. If you follow us on social media, you’ve likely heard us say time and time again that design is a journey and we want you to lead the way while we navigate the waters; we'll highlight various options and paths you may choose to go down (in regards to the direction you’d like your space to go in) that you may not have considered without the aid and insight of a designer.
As we embark on this new coastal design collaboration with Robbin, we invite you to follow along closely as we document every step of the process of working with Mackenzie + Company and shed light on what it’s like to work with an Interior Designer, particularly if it’s your first time! Additionally, we’d love for this collaboration and process to be as transparent as possible. That being said, please send us any and all questions you may have about working with our team, the interior design process in general or what goes on in our design studio behind the scenes.
We’ll be posting a new blog, as well as sending out detailed newsletters to our subscribers, each week pertaining to the current happenings in our MCO x Mangano collaboration. Plus, our email subscribers will receive special tips and tricks, along with insider knowledge from our Principal Designer, Angela Hamwey.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates to come—next in our collaboration we’ll be discussing steps three and four in our process: your design proposal and official client on-boarding!
