We loved sharing our thoughts about this topic and thought we’d share more with you all here on our journal.

Thanks TikTok, the coastal grandmother trend quickly gained popularity in both the fashion and interior design world in 2022. What started as a trend inspired by the set of a Nancy Meyers film has now transpired into a lifestyle approach.

We quickly resonated with the coastal grandmother aesthetic and the laid back approach to style, design, and way of life. Originally inspired by the elevated elegance of a timeless coastal home, it's a relaxed, yet refined aesthetic that combines both comfort and luxury.

To achieve this look, you don’t have to live by the coast or be a grandmother. The coastal grandmother relates to an aspirational lifestyle. Despite its coastal origins, nautical themed elements are not at the heart of this design. Instead, create an understated look through the use of textiles in neutral color palettes with soft linen and knit textures.

With sustainability in mind, vintage or heirloom pieces may be incorporated to add a layer of character and charm. These worn items make the design feel special and round out the home for a lived in look. Whether it's a family heirloom or a thrift store find, it's fun to use these one of a kind pieces and give them a new life in your space.

We especially love the idea of translating this aesthetic into your patio or garden space. To do so, carefully consider your furniture selections and textiles. Focus on the quality of materials – elements such as wicker, rattan, and wrought iron will create a classic look and wear well over the years to come.

The coastal grandmother is more than a trend, it’s a lifestyle focused on what brings you happiness and creating those meaningful moments of joy. It's about slowing down and enjoying the little things. Furniture should be comfortable, offering the ideal spot to curl up with a good read. The patio offers a place to gather with friends or family and enjoy a glass of wine. Gardens are lush, boasting natural beauty and the home is filled with fresh cut florals.
